Port Clinton Attractions

One of the five Lake Erie Islands State Parks, Catawba Island State Park is available for day use with a boat launch, fishing pier, picnic areas and shelters. Swimming is allowed but there are no lifeguards.

Catawba Island State Park is the headquarters for all of the Lake Erie Islands State Parks including Kelleys Island State Park, Middle Bass Island State Park, South Bass Island State Park and Oak Point State Park. Call to inquire about camping availability.

The need for American naval gunnery and marksmanship skills was established during the Spanish-American war and by 1909, the 300 acre Camp Perry became a permanent training camp with the largest and best equipped rifle and pistol ranges in the United States.

During World War II, Camp Perry served as a POW camp to house the many German and Italian prisoners of war. Many tar paper covered hutments constructed for housing these prisoners are still standing.

Home to the Red Horse Squadron, Camp Perry also hosts the National Rifle and Pistol Matches, offers a lodging and conference center overlooking Lake Erie, a day use sandy beach, playground and pier.

Jefferson Street Pier

Walk or relax along the pier as you watch fishing charters, ferry services, private sail boats and motor boats enter and exit Lake Erie from the Portage River or grab a fishing pole and join the locals in catching large and smallmouth bass, catfish, trout and once in awhile even a Lake Erie yellow perch.

Enjoy free live music each weekend throughout the summer or sit at nightime on the pier during the famous Port Clinton Walleye Festival for a show of carnival lights reflecting off the Lake Erie waters.
